The Chicago Tribune covered our client's successful challenge to her school's policy of prohibiting young women from wearing tuxedos to prom:

"This sends a negative message to other students that they can't express who they are," said John Knight, director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Project at the ACLU. 150 supporters of bringing medically accurate sexual health education to Illinois public schools teemed through the halls of Springfield yesterday in support of Senate Bill 1619, the Illinois Personal Responsibility Education Program. The bill, sponsored by Senator Heather Steans, would require Illinois public schools already offering sexual health education classes include age appropriate, medically accurate sexual health information, prioritizing science before ideology.

The ACLU of Illinois was proud to partner with the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health, AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Personal PAC, McHenry County Citizens for Choice, Chicago and NW Suburban NOW and numerous other organizations in support of this critical legislation. We were especially pleased to see so many youth from across Illinois turn out to advocate for better education in their schools.
