We continue to challenge Trump’s abuse of power nationwide in the courts, in legislatures, and on the ground with supporters like you. Here in Illinois, we are further strengthening our protective firewall, limiting the harm the Trump Administration seeks to inflict, including:
- Challenging the inhumane and unconstitutional conditions at the Broadview ICE Facility.
- Securing critical limitations on the use of projectiles, chemical agents, and other force against protestors, clergy, and journalists in the Chicagoland area.
- Enforcing our consent decree with the Department of Homeland Security to prevent federal officials from making warrantless arrests of immigrants.
- Fighting efforts to dismantle Head Start, one of the most successful federal programs for youth and families.
- Opposing the Administration’s policy that prohibits transgender federal employees from using restrooms and accommodations aligned with their gender.
The ACLU has filed more than 200 legal actions against the second Trump Administration, and we are stopping or stalling the worst offenses. Together, with your support, we will not back down.
In addition to the critical work to fight against federal abuse of power, we continue to protect the rights and liberties of all Illinoisians, including:
- Advancing successful legislation that will allow mentally capable, terminally ill adults to have the option to obtain prescription medication to peacefully end unbearable suffering.
- Winning a sweeping order prohibiting Mary Davis Detention Home in Knox County from placing youth in extended solitary confinement.
- Passing legislation that prioritizes placing youth in the family regulation system with relatives.
The ACLU was built to meet this moment. Now is a critical time to invest and engage further in this work. Our rights, liberties, and the rule of law depend on the strength of our communal resistance.
