CHICAGO – In response to the Chicago City Council’s vote to approve $5.5M in TIF funds to Presence Health to build their downtown headquarters – despite concerns over the Catholic organization’s opposition to contraception and reproductive health care - the below statement can be attributed to Lorie Chaiten, Director, Women’s and Reproductive Rights Project, ACLU of Illinois

“It is extremely disappointing that the Chicago City Council would rush to hand over millions in taxpayer funds to Presence Health, even after hearing the real concerns about how their policies harm women and families. We will be tracking this closely and will continue to bring to the light the many ways Presence blocks access to reproductive health care, including contraceptive pregnancy prevention care, tubal ligations, miscarriage treatment and other abortions. We are thankful to the aldermen who voted no and stood up for women and families across our city.”
