The ACLU of Illinois and the Center on Halsted are proud to present a conversation with transgender advocate Diane Schroer. Colonel Schroer, a highly-decorated, 25-year Army veteran, was hired as a terrorism research analyst for the Library of Congress, only to have the job offer rescinded when she informed her future employer that she was in the process of gender transitioning. The ACLU represented Ms. Schroer in her successful Title VII sex discrimination lawsuit against the Library of Congress.

Ms. Schroer will share her experiences in an intimate discussion at the Center on Halsted (3656 N Halsted) on Sunday, November 15th from 6 to 8 p.m. You can RSVP to the Center on Halsted.

Ms. Schroer will visit NIU at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, to discuss her groundbreaking Title VII sex discrimination lawsuit against the Library of Congress, which established that discriminating against someone for changing genders is sex discrimination under federal law. The presentation will take place in the Francis X. Riley Courtroom, Swen Parson Hall, Room 170, with a reception following.

Sponsored by Senator Steans and Representative Fritchey, House Bill 2547 provides an Illinois Human Rights Act remedy for victims of hostile or discriminatory classroom conduct (minority, disabled or gay students, for example). Recovery may be obtained upon a showing of severe or pervasive harassment where a school fails to take corrective action. The ACLU of Illinois partnered in this effort with lead proponent, the Illinois Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities.
