Give Together for Immigrant Justice

The Trump Administration has mounted a reckless and violent anti-immigrant campaign that is inflicting devastating harm – including thousands of people detained, families separated, and lasting impacts on once vibrant communities.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re turning our spotlight toward some of the organizations that are doing critical work to protect and provide services to the immigrant communities in our state.

The ACLU continues to fight in the courts, in the legislature, and in communities across Illinois. We accomplish so much of our work in collaboration with partners throughout the state. Many organizations have stepped up in this moment to provide essential, on the ground support, including legal assistance, food pantries, housing assistance, and so much more.

We are deeply inspired by the way Illinoisians have risen to this moment with compassion, solidarity, and action. Today, we invite you to learn more about and donate, if you are able, to some of the incredible organizations doing this work. Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness (CCH):

Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness (CCH) organizes and advocates for a world where everyone has a safe, welcoming, and permanent place to call home. CCH builds power and makes change through community education, strategic campaigns, and policy initiatives that target root causes of homelessness across Chicago and Illinois. Our campaigns center people who have experienced homelessness, because we understand that the people closest to the problems are also closest to the solutions.

Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community (CBCAC):

Founded in 1998 to fight against predatory casino bussing, Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community unites the resources of member organizations and individual members to empower Chinese American communities in Greater Chicago. At CBCAC, we believe that everyone, no matter socioeconomic background or immigration status, should be engaged and active citizens with access to the information and knowledge they need to advocate for themselves.

Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR):

The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights is dedicated to promoting the rights of immigrants and refugees in our diverse society. Since its founding in 1986, ICIRR has worked to establish the first permanent line-item in the state budget dedicated to immigrant services in the country, pass legislation at the state level that provided in-state tuition for undocumented students, enable undocumented drivers to get drivers’ licenses, and bar local and state law enforcement from holding individuals based on immigration status. More recently, ICIRR has led resistance to ICE and Homeland Security operations in our state, educating thousands of people about their constitutional rights when interacting with law enforcement, operating a hotline to report immigration activity, organizing rapid response teams to investigate and document these incidents, and lead rallies, marches, and other events to organize and mobilize opposition.

Latinos Progresando:

Latinos Progresando (LP) is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization with the mission to elevate the well-being of the Mexican community. Founded in 1998, Latinos Progresando provides a solid foundation through immigration legal services, builds connections to promote wellness and wealth, and amplifies Mexican voice in civic and cultural life. Our work includes high-quality, affordable immigration legal services, leadership development and social emotional learning programs, support services for small businesses, events that highlight Mexican history and culture, coalition-building and cross-community collaboration, including the creation of the Excellerator Fund, a 5-year initiative to invest $5 million in Black and Mexican-led organizations.

National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC):

The National Immigrant Justice Center has worked for more than 40 years to defend the rights of immigrants. NIJC blends direct legal services, impact litigation, and policy advocacy to fight for due process for all and to hold the U.S. government accountable to uphold human rights. NIJC’s experienced legal staff collaborate with a broad network of volunteer lawyers to provide legal counsel to more than 11,000 people each year, including people seeking asylum, people in ICE detention, LGBTQ immigrants, victims of human trafficking, unaccompanied immigrant children, and community members who are applying for citizenship and permanent residence.

Onward Neighborhood House:

Since 1893, Onward Neighborhood House has served as a reliable, culturally fluent social services hub for Chicago's immigrant and low-income communities. Located in Belmont Cragin, Onward House runs an Early Childhood Education program, including Special Education services and a School Age after-school program, Adult Education classes, a Food and Resource Pantry, and Illinois Welcoming Center for immigrants and refugees, and a co-located Primary Health Clinic in partnership with CommunityHealth. With immigrant families being targeted and the social safety net being under threat, Onward House and our supporters are stepping up to provide food, resources, and services to the children and families who need it most. With your support, we will continue to work to build communities where every child and family has access to education, stability, and the resources to thrive.

The Resurrection Project (TRP):

Since 1990, The Resurrection Project (TRP) has worked to build community and champion justice so that immigrant families have the power to shape their future. As a statewide leader in immigrant justice, TRP delivers free legal services, including deportation defense, to thousands of immigrants each year. TRP also develops immigrant residents and partner organizations to lead, organize, and build capacity, and powers advocacy campaigns that deliver increased funding and access to legal services for immigrant families statewide.
