The following is the statement of Khadine Bennett, Legislative Counsel regarding HB 2675 the Comprehensive Sexual Health Education Bill which was approved by Illinois Senate:
The Senators who supported HB 2675 today are to be congratulated. They have acted to modernize sexual health education in Illinois, so that students in grades six to 12 now will receive age-appropriate, medically-accurate, complete information. No student in Illinois should graduate from high school without having been offered updated, accurate information about their sexual health.
This information will permit students to make healthy, responsible decisions that benefit these young people today, as well as throughout their lives. Despite inaccurate claims about this legislation from opponents, legislators recognize that we must provide our young people with this critical information.
We urge Governor Quinn to quickly sign this legislation.
