Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and Representative Jan Schakowsky helped introduce the EACH Woman Act in Congress, which wouldensure coverage for abortion for every woman however much she earns, however she is insured, or wherever she lives.

The below statement can be attributed to Colleen Connell, Executive Director, ACLU of Illinois:

“For more than four decades, the dangerous Hyde Amendment has kept women in our nation from getting the health care they need. It is time for that to end.

Ideologically-driven advocates should not be able to block women from making the best decisions for themselves and their families. Everybody should be able to make their own deeply personal decisions about their reproductive health, regardless of their income or the source of their insurance coverage. Illinois recognized this by passing House Bill 40 and we urge the Congress to do the same.

We applaud bill sponsors U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and Representative Jan Schakowsky for their courage and leadership. We look forward to supporting their efforts in passing this legislation and further advancing health, economic security and equality for women across our country.”
