The following can be attributed to Colleen Connell, Executive Director of the ACLU of Illinois:

“We welcome this evening’s vote by the Appropriation-Human Services Committee to move the Reproductive Health Act forward for a full vote in the House. It is time for abortion care, contraception and maternal care to be treated as health care – not a crime – in our state. The issue here is simple – the RHA empowers every individual in Illinois to make the most personal medical decisions in consultation with their physician. Everyone in our state deserves that right.

Threats to criminalize reproductive health care across the country create a moment of urgency for the Illinois legislature in the final week of the session. We urge all members to rise to this occasion and protect basic health care.”
