The ACLU of Illinois is sponsoring a scholarship in Alex McCray’s memory for the ACLU National Advocacy Institute, a program that brings high school and college students together in Washington, DC to learn more about the work of ACLU and develop advocacy tools to use in the future.
Alex, one of our former clients, was a student at Williamsville High School in 2016, when he bravely brought a challenge to the District’s policy barring transgender students (like Alex) from using the restroom consistent with their authentic selves.
In honor of Alex we want to give students the opportunity to learn from and be surrounded by powerful advocates.
We are offering a full scholarship – including flight and stay – to the ACLU’s Advocacy Institute which takes place during the summer in Washington D.C.
To receive this scholarship you must be accepted into the program. Find more information on this year’s program and how to apply here.
