The freedom of speech, of the press, the right to peacefully assemble, and religious liberty are the fundamental cornerstones of our democratic society. The ACLU of Illinois historically defended these values, including the ability of a group of neo-Nazis to demonstrate in Skokie. We continue to protect free speech today, firmly believing that limiting one person’s access to speech, limits us all. We stand ready to fight for the ability to speak freely for all persons from unnecessary government restrictions and limitations. The ACLU of Illinois continues our efforts to protect the ability for all to practice religion freely, without discrimination, and free from government entanglement or influence.
