Today, a coalition of parents and Head Start providers filed a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s coordinated and unlawful efforts to dismantle the Head Start program, which would be catastrophic for the millions of people who rely on it.

A coalition of twenty youth justice, civil rights and legal reform organizations today sent a letter to the members of the Chicago City Council encouraging them to reject a proposal for “snap” curfews across the city when it is considered in the coming weeks.

Lawyers for the ACLU of Illinois and the National Immigrant Justice Center request for a federal court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the Trump Administration seeking to force the state and local government to abandon their laws and participate in the Administration’s mass deportation program. 

Twenty-two people, including a U.S. citizen from Chicago, subjected to unlawful arrests and detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the early weeks of the second Trump administration.

The hearing is expected to focus on whether local communities – including Chicago – remain free to set their own law enforcement policies or if they must abandon local priorities to participate in Trump’s mass deportation scheme. 

The Illinois Senate Criminal Law Committee today will consider Senate Bill 42, a measure that addresses unnecessary confusion about when police officers can use the odor of cannabis as a reason to stop or search a motorist’s car.
