The Windy City Times reported on a panel discussion hosted by the ACLU of Illinois and Lambda Legal about the marriage suit at Center on Halsted on July 17. ACLU plaintiff Carlos Briones spoke on the panel and said it became very important for him and his husband, Richard Rykhus, to have the freedom to marry when they adopted their son, Ty.

"Suddenly it became more important," said Briones. "We wanted our son to be proud. We wanted him to believe he was a part of a family as valuable as any other."
