Earlier this afternoon, the House Elections and Campaign Finance Committee approved House Bill 4469, a measure that expands the opportunity to vote for person being detained pre-trial and those leaving prisons in Illinois. The vote was 14-0.

The following statement can be attributed to Khadine Bennett, Director of Advocacy and Intergovernmental Affairs, the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois:

"Nothing is more fundamental to participating in our society than voting. House Bill 4469 helps assure that every person eligible to vote in the State of Illinois is able to exercise the franchise. Those being held in pretrial detention and those leaving prison will get to access the ballot box. We applaud Representative Julianna Stratton and other supporters of this measure for their work to move this important legislation forward. We look forward to a full vote in the House."
