The Illinois Senate approved Senate Bill 2090, which expands the opportunity to vote for persons being detained pre-trial and provide those leaving prisons in Illinois with a voter registration application and a “know your rights guide” tailored to people with records.

The following can be attributed to Khadine Bennett, Advocacy and Intergovernmental Affairs Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois:

“All eligible voters deserve the information they need to vote. Senate Bill 2090 – approved by the full Senate today – turns this aspiration into reality. The measure will ensure that Illinois residents being held in pretrial detention and those leaving prison receive information they need to continue to participate in our democracy. We thank Senate sponsor Omar Aquino for guiding the bill through the Senate and look forward to its passage in the Illinois House.”
