Please join the ACLU and supporters in the Barrington area on Sunday, September 28th from 1 PM – 3 PM at the Barrington Area Public Library for an informational meeting on the ACLU’s recent work and a discussion on creating an ACLU group in your community. The current federal administration presents a clear, existential threat to basic civil rights and our democracy. We are seeing continued abuses of federal power – from threats to free expression and bodily autonomy, inhumane mass deportations programs, and the deployment of military troops in our cities. That reality has many of us wondering what we can do to push back against this gross overreach of federal power and fight for additional protections of civil rights and liberties.

Please join the ACLU of Illinois on Wednesday, September 3rd at 12:00 PM CT for a virtual town hall about the ongoing federal abuse of power and threats from the government to send federal forces and the National Guard into Chicago.
There is no emergency in Chicago that warrants sending federal forces, including National Guard troops, to our streets. This action would undoubtedly put residents of Chicago at risk of being harassed or harmed by federal forces. This abuse of power is not meant to make Chicago any safer, it is simply designed to create fear in our communities. The ACLU stands ready to hold these forces accountable if they seek to block peaceful protest and the free press, engage in racial profiling, or use excessive force.
We know that many of you have questions about these threats. Please join us on September 3rd to hear about what we expect to see in Chicago and what you should know about this development.
