An opinion piece published in The State Journal-Register outlines why the bill that would legalize same-sex marriage should be passed in the Illinois General Assembly. The ACLU of Illinois is working with a coalition of organizations to promote the freedom to marry for all Illinoisans and are gaining support from both sides of the aisle.

The most stunning development of the week was when Illinois Republican Party chairman Pat Brady said he favors gay marriage.

“How are we ever going to get the vote of anyone under 40? People have a very bad image of the party now,” Brady told Crain’s Chicago Business in an interview. “Mean-spirited. But this is the party of Lincoln, the party of equality.”
