Progress Illinois published an article about the Be Bold Bus Tour which made its stop in Chicago on Friday, featuring ACLU of Illinois attorney Roshni Shikari addressing the harms of Illinois' parental notice of abortion law. Also addressing the audience were renowned speakers such as Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Congressman Mike Quigley, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, and reproductive justice advocate and health care provider Dr. Willie Parker. The parental notice law requires minors seeking abortion to have an adult family member notified 48 hours prior to the procedure. At the Bus Tour rally, Shikari said:

“For many young women, forced notification of a family member will result in them being abused, kicked out of the home, or forced to carry a pregnancy to term against their will,” said Roshni Shikari, staff attorney with the ACLU of Illinois. “Their only alternative is to go to court and share with a judge the most intimate aspect of their lives, hoping the judge will grant them a waiver so they can get their abortions.”
