The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin posted an article about the recent appellate court ruling which will allow the lawsuit Central Austin Neighborhood Association (CANA) v. City of Chicago to move forward. ACLU of Illinois attorneys filed the lawsuit on behalf of the ACLU membership as well as the community organization CANA. The suit claims the response rate from police in the Austin neighborhood is significantly slower compared to the response rate from police in more affluent Chicago neighborhoods.

Harvey M. Grossman, legal director for the ACLU of Illinois, said the data his organization continues to collect shows the current policy is bad for minorities.
“We’re very pleased with the decision of the appellate court and we look forward to returning to the trial court and seeking relief as soon as possible,” Grossman said.
