A WJBC radio story in Central Illinois noted that an Appellate Court heard arguments this week in an abortion case that’s been in the courts for more than 15 years.
The Parental Notice of Abortion Act was approved in 1995, but has never taken effect, because of court challenges by the American Civil Liberties Union. A total of 21 state’s attorneys from across Illinois have signed in support of the act. McLean County State’s Attorney Bill Yoder is one, saying a parent has the right to know if a procedure is being performed.
The ACLU argues the law violates rights under the state Constitution. No decision on the case has been made yet.
