Earlier this afternoon, the Illinois House of Representatives by a vote of 64-37 (1 Present) approved and sent to the Illinois Senate House Bill 4469, a measure that expands the opportunity to vote for person being detained pre-trial and those leaving prisons in Illinois. The following can be attributed to Khadine Bennett of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois:

This is a great day for all those who believe that nothing is more fundamental than voting. House Bill 4469 helps assure that every person eligible to vote in the State of Illinois is able to exercise that right – enhancing and expanding participation in our society for those too often ignored and forgotten, individuals with criminal records. We applaud Representative Julianna Stratton and other supporters of this measure for their work and look forward to passage in the Illinois Senate.
