Welcome Home, Civil Libertarians

Our new website will dramatically increase your access to our issues and give us new opportunities to communicate with you and mobilize support for civil liberties across the State. We hope you enjoy our new look! Please stay awhile and enjoy the myriad of new features on our new site:

  • You can now explore the work of the ACLU of Illinois by issue. Each of our issue pages – from Racial Justice to National Security – invites you to explore our litigation in the courts and our efforts in the legislature, as well as recent press releases, news articles and blog posts.

  • If our legal work interests you, we invite you to visit the In the Courts section. Here you will find extensive information about our cases, including media coverage and legal documents, available for download.

  • The In the Legislature section gives you the latest updates on efforts in the Illinois General Assembly. As the 2011 legislative session gets underway, check back often for the latest from Springfield, fact sheets about proposed legislation and links to action pages.

  • Finally, please stop by our Action Center to discover the ACLU’s latest initiatives, donate to support our work, locate your legislators or become a member.

The past few months have been especially exciting for the ACLU of Illinois as well as our members and supporters.

In December, years of hard work culminated in the passage of a civil union bill – extending a measure of basic fairness and legal protections to gay and lesbian as well as straight couples across Illinois. Years of efforts to abolish the death penalty came to fruition in January, with passage of a repeal bill in both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly. And just last week, the ACLU’s report on the spread of the surveillance camera system in Chicago garnered national attention – and sparked a critical conversation among mayoral and aldermanic candidates about how best to protect the privacy of Chicagoans.

We hope this new website will invite you to share in these achievements, and more importantly, encourage you to join us for the many successes we will celebrate together in the years ahead.

Thank you for your continued support of the ACLU of Illinois – and welcome home!

P.S. We want to hear from you. So, please tell us what you think about our new site – and give us ideas on how to make it even better by filling out our survey!
