WBEZ reported that Clerks Kerry Hirtzel, a Republican from downstate Effingham County, and Christie Webb, a Democrat from Tazewell County in central Illinois, along with the Thomas More Society filed a request in intervene in the ACLU of Illinois’ marriage suit to try to defend the ban on marriage in Illinois. On behalf of our clients, the ACLU of Illinois (and our colleagues at Lambda Legal) did not oppose the motion to intervene, saying that we do not want to delay the fight for the freedom to marry for all lesbian and gay couples in Illinois.

"[W]e remain focused on winning the freedom to marry for our clients and thousands of other same sex couples in Illinois."
