Susan Herman on Taking Liberties: The War on Terror and the Erosion of Democracy.

Date: Tuesday, October 11, 2011 Location: International House 1414 E. 59th Street Chicago, IL 60637

Susan Herman, National ACLU President

On Tuesday, October 11th, the ACLU of Illinois welcomes National ACLU President Susan Herman to discuss her new book, Taking Liberties: The War on Terror and the Erosion of American Democracy. In Taking Liberties, Ms. Herman takes a hard look at the human and social costs of the War on Terror. She describes multiple cases where innocent people had their civil rights violated and their lives turned upside-down under both George W. Bush and Barack Obama. These are not just isolated mistakes in an otherwise sound program, but demonstrations of what can happen when our constitutional protections against government abuse are abandoned.

Join us for this special event at the University of Chicago’s Seminary Co-op Bookstore on October 11th.

When: Tuesday, October 11th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: International House, 1414 E. 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60637
