Protect Reproductive Health and Access in Illinois

The Reproductive Health and Access Act will be refiled in the Illinois House of Representatives this February, and we need YOU to urge your legislators to support it. Join us in Springfield Wednesday, February 10th for Reproductive Health Lobby Day.

The Reproductive Health and Access Act gives people in Illinois access to a broad continuum of reproductive health care and information throughout their lives, including access to responsible sexual health education, quality birth control and prenatal care, and the right to choose abortion. This is a bill to protect comprehensive reproductive health care for all in Illinois.

Some key features in the Reproductive Health and Access Act:

  • It ensures that politicians and special interest groups will not be allowed to intrude on the rights of individuals to make their own decisions about their reproductive healthcare based on their own personal values and their doctors’ advice.
  • It requires public schools to offer age-appropriate, medically accurate, comprehensive sexual health education. As is appropriate, parents will retain the right to withdraw their children from these classes.
  • It guarantees that everyone will have the ability to use or refuse contraception and every woman will have the ability to make the decision about when and whether to have a child.
  • It protects individuals from financial discrimination by ensuring that individuals eligible for state Medicaid assistance have access to a full range of reproductive health care.

So how can you help support this bill? On Wednesday, February 10th – Reproductive Health and Access Lobby Day – join supporters from around the state to show your commitment to comprehensive, age appropriate, sexual health education, access to quality birth control and prenatal care and the right to choose abortion. Then on Thursday, February 11th you can further support the Reproductive Health and Access Act by contacting your legislator and urging them to ensure that government cannot interfere with personal decision-making about reproductive health.
