Call before House vote! Oppose Forced DNA Testing of Persons Not Convicted of a Crime

Oppose Forced DNA Testing of all Arrestees - House Bill 4607 on Illinois House Floor This Week!

Your call is needed! Please contact your representative in the Illinois House and urge him/her to oppose forced collection of DNA for persons not convicted of a crime. House Bill 4607 may be called for a vote in the Illinois House this week on Tuesday or Wednesday.

House Bill 4607 requires law enforcement agencies to collect a DNA sample from all persons arrested for felonies in the State of Illinois, greatly expanding the current mandate that DNA be gathered from all persons convicted. This expensive, unnecessary expansion of the collection of highly private information about persons not yet found guilty is a significant step in the dangerous direction of collecting DNA from all persons for cataloguing and storage by government. We must stop expansion of the collection and cataloguing of DNA by government for persons not convicted of any criminal activity. More information about our opposition to forced DNA testing of all arrestees can be found on our website at http://www.aclu-il.org/legislative/alerts/hb4607.pdf.

Contact your state representative by calling the General Assembly switchboard at (217) 782-2000 and ask to be contacted to your state representative. If you are unsure who your state representative is, you can find out at http://www.elections.il.gov/DistrictLocator/SelectSearchType.aspx?NavLink=1.
