As the Illinois General Assembly prepares for its final week of legislative work, scheduled for November 18-20, one important piece of unfinished business is Senate Bill 101. That legislation brings to an end the last legally sanctioned discrimination in our state - - discrimination against gay men, lesbians, bisexual and transgender persons. Senate Bill 101 bans discrimination on the basis of lesbians and gay men, bisexual and transgendered persons in housing, credit, employment and other public accommodations. It is time for a statewide policy against this form of discrimination. Last week, Governor Rod Blagojevich made a strong call for the Illinois Senate to adopt this important legislation.

Senate Bill 101 is within a few votes of passage in the Senate. This is a critical moment – before next week’s legislative session – for you to let your State Senator know that you are a constituent concerned with basic fairness.
