Urge Governor Blagojevich to Combat the Spread of HIV and AIDS in Illinois!
July 9, 2003
Dear ACLU of Illinois Action Alert Member,
A critical measure to help stem the spread of HIV and AIDS in the State of Illinois passed both the Illinois House and Illinois Senate during the recently concluded legislative session. The measure now goes to Governor Rod Blagojevich for his approval. We urge you to contact the Governor and urge him to support this important legislation!
Senate Bill 880 allows individuals 18-years old and older to purchase syringes from a pharmacy without a prescription. Scientific studies demonstrate that allowing adults to purchase syringes without a prescription significantly reduces the rate of HIV or hepatitis without increasing intravenous drug use.
It is urgent that you contact the Governor and urge him to sign Senate Bill 880. There are several ways to make your voice heard in Governor Blagojevich’s office.
To Telephone the Governor’s Office:
Chicago: (312) 814-2121
Springfield: (217) 782-6830
To Email the Governor:
governor@state.il.us
To Write the Governor:
The Honorable Rod Blagojevich
Governor of the State of Illinois
James R. Thompson Center
16th Floor
Chicago, IL 60601
Thank you –
You action can make a difference!
