Institutionalized Persons Project and Children's Initiative Mental Health Initiative: The Mental Health Initiative defends and protects the rights of mentally ill persons in state care. The Initiative's class action lawsuit resulted in a settlement agreement requiring the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities to correct the deplorable state of mental health care in Illinois. Children's Initiative: The Children's Initiative protects the rights of children in state custody. This includes advocacy on behalf of abused and neglected children whom we represent in our class action suit to reform the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services as well as children in the troubled Illinois juvenile justice system.
