Will YOU come to Springfield to urge your legislator to pass a civil union bill to protect gay couples in Illinois? The Illinois General Assembly currently is considering civil union legislation that provides basic fairness to committed long term same sex and opposite sex couples and their families. Under current law, same sex couples can be denied the ability to visit each other in the hospital, to make life-saving medical decisions for each other, or even to bury their loved ones with dignity.
- Join us on a trip to Springfield to speak with your representative in person. ACLU members and staff will travel to Springfield to explain how the civil union bill will protect Illinois families. (Wednesdays in April and May)
- Meet with YOUR representative in YOUR community. ACLU members and staff will meet with their representatives in-district to explain the importance of treating all Illinois families with fairness and dignity. (Mondays and Fridays in April and May)
The Illinois Religious Freedom and Civil Union Act grants basic legal protections to Illinois couples that need them. But without YOUR voice, this important legislation will not pass!
