Why Give?

Why support the ACLU? For the past 90 years, no other organization has more consistently, more fiercely or more successfully defended civil liberties in the United States. From our first years, championing the rights of immigrants targeted in the Palmer Raids and defending biology teacher John Scopes in the famous ‘Monkey Trial’, to our work today fighting to protect your privacy from video surveillance, to defend the rights of people with disabilities and to end racial profiling, the ACLU is our nation’s guardian of liberty.

The ACLU is efficient, as well as effective. 83% of revenue goes directly to program activities – from our litigation to hold phone companies accountable for sharing customers’ telephone records with the government without lawful authorization to our advocacy in the Illinois General Assembly to abolish the death penalty. Your support of the ACLU of Illinois and the Roger Baldwin Foundation makes our work possible.
