Lorie Chaiten is Director of the Reproductive Rights Project of the Roger Baldwin Foundation of ACLU, Inc. Ms. Chaiten has been involved in reproductive rights litigation and advocacy throughout her 30 year legal career. She leads the ACLU of Illinois’ advocacy to secure rights to the full range of reproductive health care, medical privacy and gender equality. Ms. Chaiten has litigated numerous challenges to laws that impede access to abortion, contraception and other reproductive health care. She is a co-author of Religious Refusals under the Affordable Care Act: Contraception as Essential Health Care, 15 DePaul J. Health Care L. 1 2013. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Abortion Federation and the Midwest Access Project. She is a Lecturer in the Law at the University of Chicago Law School and has taught in the Medical Ethics and Humanities Program at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University. Prior to joining the ACLU, Chaiten was a partner in the law firm, Sonnenschein, Nath and Rosenthal.
